sborah - Thank you for this piece of information! I've been having trouble with adding one person, and they are using Straight Talk. I've added many with success, but this user is not receiving any texts from our agency. A reverse look-up does indicate that his phone is on the Verizon Wireless network, but I have not been able to get this to work.

I'm posting this to share my findings with the PageGate community. In northern Michigan, we are progressively getting more competition in the cellular phone market. Our primary vendors were Cellular One (now AT&T) and Alltel (now Verizon). We've recently gained Sprint/Nextel to the area as well, and there have been many messages on this site about their new SMS gateway and how to send messages to users there.

However, for the rest, these are my discoveries:
- AT&T is an SMTP, and users are set up email to: 10digitphonenumber@txt.att.net

- Any customers that were previously Alltel users (now Verizon) should use the Verizon Wireless platform, which is an SMTP, and users are set up email to: 10digitphonenumber@vtext.com

Now we have our pre-paid phone carriers - TracFone and Straight Talk. Straight Talk is a trademark of TracFone, I've discovered that it doesn't mean they function on the same local platforms. These pre-paid phones purchase existing service from major vedors in your area. The best way to determine which platform to use is by:
1. Identify the prefix of the phone number you are trying to add
2. Determine which major carrier in your area is assigning that prefix to its new customers.
3. Use that major carrier's platform.

In northern Michigan:
Tracfone = AT&T platform (@txt.att.net)
Straight Talk = Verizon platform (@vtext.com)
