| Thanks! Most helpful. The documentation that I scanned doesn't seem to be that clear on this point. Got it now.

| Got it on Verizon.
On the message length thing, after pondering and testing a bit, it looks to me like NPP uses CARRIER Max Chars to determine how long a message it can send to the carrier, and uses that value to packetize the messages into receivable messages. And it uses RECIPIENT Max Chars to determine how long a message can be sent to any recipient, regardless of the CARRIER limitation, and will truncate the message that is entered so as not to exceed that limit, correct? Have I got it right? |

| Two items related to NotePager Pro:
First, I was doing some testing this morning on 3 different carriers, one set up as SNPP with message length 240, the other two as SMTP with message lengths of 120 and 150. I created a message of length 266. The SNPP carrier received only 1 message that appeared to be truncated about 240 characters. The carrier of length 120 received 3 messages, that also appear to be truncated at 240 (total of the 3). And the carrier of length 150 received two messages that also appeared to be truncated at 240 total. So, is 240 a system limit for a message, and if so, why would it let me create one longer than that? Second, the two SMTP carriers had very different processing times in NPP. One processed messages very quickly, the other spent much more time in two steps: preparing and sending. The slow one happened to be Verizon Wireless. Any insight into processing differences? Thanks, Barry |

| On the first issue, I did what you suggested. Saved the .mdb file, uninstalled, downloaded and installed, copied back in the "old" .mdb file. That seemed to solve both issues, at least based on limited testing.
On the second issue, will email you a copy of the "before" .mdb file. Have a new problem now. The original software that we had installed was an already registered version that we got from our paging supplier, PagePlus. The new version I installed this morning is, of course, an evaluation version. How do I get that registered, given that I started with registered software? Thanks for the help. Barry Fittes |

| Should be able to do both of those things yet today. At the wrong firehouse at the moment, but will get to it in a bit.
Thanks. |

| On the first problem, I tried what you said and both npp and nppdial show up as "running" in task manager.
On the second problem, understand what you are saying. I believe, however, that once the application is closed, it should delete the lock file, correct? Well, it isn't doing that. It remains, even after the user who set the lock has signed off the system, and even if the machine is rebooted. The user that created the lock can get back into NPP, but another user cannot, since the first user owns the lock file, and it is still there. All of our installations are standalone installs, although our PCs are networked. We have a plethora of different user accounts, but (obviously) only one user per PC at a time. |

| I have two issues, which I supposed could be related. I installed the software (Version 3) last summer on 9 multi-user PCs. It has worked perfectly since then until last week.
First problem: One of the machines suddenly developed a problem where it would put all messages into "Pending" without any apparent attempt to send. Connection Monitor shows nothing when this happens. Second problem: While trying to troubleshoot this issue, it appears that we have a problem with the software deleting npp.ldb once you exit the software. So the original user can get back into the application, but another user that tries to use it gets the Error 3050 message that you cannot lock the file. I erased it using an administrator account, but as soon as I got in with a normal user account, the issue reappeared. No changes made to this one PC that we are aware of. Any suggestions? |

| Makes sense. Will look into that. Thanks.
Any clues about Verizon cell phone and snpp? I have a Verizon phone, when I investigated SNPP a while back, the response I got was "we don't support it". But while researching the Cingular issue, I searched the Verizon web site again, and came up with the following: iTXT iTXT translates major messaging protocols (including SNPP, WCTP and TAP) into TXT Messages of up to 500 characters, delivers these messages simultaneously to one or more handsets and then provides a confirmation when messages are delivered successfully. Sent Verizon an email and they said to call them, haven't done that yet. Now I can't fine the email they sent me. Anyway, do you know how to set that up? Barry |

| One of my users switched his phone from Nextel to Cingular. SNPP to Nextel was working fine. Tried it with Cingular (using 10 digit number as with Nextel) and failed miserably. Able to connect to the SNPP server, but the messages fails. Log follows:
