Just to double check, what build of PG Admin is that workstation using?

To verify, browse in to the c:\Program Files (x86)\NotePage\PageGate Admin\ folder on the workstation and go into the properties of pgadmin.exe; the build number should be listed under the 'Details' tab.

Joe,

There are two different styles of failover in PageGate, one at the carrier level and one at the recipient level.

Carrier level failover
This Carrier level failover allows PageGate to automatically and seamlessly transition between communication methods in the event that it has trouble delivering a message.

As an example, let's say you're using a cellular modem to deliver your messages. You would probably also want to configure an internet based carrier that the cellular modem could fail over to in the event of hardware failure.

So, let's say that you're using a cellular modem and that you're also registered for Verizon's Enterprise Messaging Access Gateway (EMAG) WCTP API. You could have the cellular modem fail over to Verizon's EMAG WCTP host, so that in the event of hardware failure, your traffic still has a viable route of delivery available.

Recipient level failover
The Recipient level failover allows PageGate to automatically deliver a message to an alternate address, location or person in the event that the primary contact couldn't be messaged.

For example, let's say that we have John Smith's Cel and John Smith's Email as recipients in PageGate. We could have John Smith's Cel fail over to John Smith's Email or we could configure the reverse. By doing so, we're telling PageGate that if a message can't be delivered to John Smith's cell phone, that message should be delivered to his email instead or vice versa.

Based on what you're describing, it sounds like you want to set up a recipient level failover so if a message to someone's email fails, it redirects the message to their cell phone via SMS gateway.

Unfortunately, it means that extra colon is coming from the device and NotePager Pro isn't inserting it.

Ah, in NotePager Pro, browse in to the program directory and look for a file named global.mtp

If it exists, what are its' contents?

If you open PG Admin and go to the Program - Template section, what does the Text section of the template look like?

Absolutely, here's how:

1) Go to Carriers - Edit

2) Highlight your (soon to be former) TAP carrier, click Edit.

3) Change the protocol from TAP to GSMAT.

4) Specify the following and click Apply:
Baud Rate: 115200
Parity: None
Data Bits: 8
Stop Bits: 1
Init String: AT+CSQ

After applying the changes to the carrier, all communication through it should try to use the cell modem instead of a dial-out modem.

I checked with a vendor that specializes in Multitech hardware and they said they have gotten the LNA4 to work on Server 2019.

Verizon requires that you have an SMTP API connection created and that the messages come from a domain they've whitelisted for the API.

To double check, if you log in to your EMAG web portal, then go to APIs - Connections, do you have an API connection listed for SMTP?

If so, does it have a domain name associated with it?

I don't think we've seen that specific model in action but I just checked the product page and documentation (https://www.multitech.com/models/92504420LF) and that model definitely supports the necessary command shell and commands to send and receive SMS. So, that should be an entirely viable device to use, you'll just need to verify what carrier service they support and use a corresponding SIM.

We've had several clients use Telemessage and TAP Gateway to replace other TAP systems that have been phased out (like when Verizon shut down their TAP system years ago).

As for alternate delivery methods, there is also cellular hardware. NotePager Pro supports using locally connected (USB or RS-232) cellular modems. These devices get to send SMS just like a cell phone does, so there's no dial-out component and you get to submit the messages directly to the cellular network.

We've seen Multitech's MTC-LNA4 function particularly well for our clients in North America. Though, if you're in Canada, we've also seen Microhard's IP4NG work well for that region as well.

Ah, I think that may have happened because a spammer made a post to that thread and it was deleted by the forum admins. If you're following the thread, you would still get the email notification that a post had been made but the post itself would be gone.

Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and US Cellular have all gotten suddenly very serious about anti-spam monitoring, rate of delivery and volume limits on their public Email-to-SMS system.

While we've recommended that public safety not use the carrier public Email-to-SMS gateways in the past, its important to note that the public Email-to-SMS system is no longer a viable method of delivery for public safety and emergency management messaging. Reliability and timeliness cannot be guaranteed and there is a high likelihood that dispatch centerers will eventually become blacklisted from using them due to carrier restrictions.

Public safety related services NEED to register on Verizon's EMAG and AT&T's Firstnet systems.

All public safety get free access to the EMAG platform to send SMS to Verizon subscribers but they charge a monthly fee for inter-carrier support.

AT&T provides public safety use of their Firstnet system and clients will need to register using https://www.firstnet.com/signup/ or by contacting any Firstnet representative available to your organization. That site allows you to verify your eligibility and begin the registration process for access to that enterprise platform.

It is important to note that Firstnet accounts must be given access to the Firstnet Messaging portal and you'll need to tell your Firstnet account manager you need that access.
