Hello,

I'm looking to finalise a PageGate order but need a little clarification about the ad-hoc feature before I do. More specifically how I can use the GUI client (if that's the best option) to send an SMS to a large ever changing list of mobile numbers. Can I input a long list of numbers at the time of sending the SMS or do they have to be created in advance. If I can enter them at the time of sending can I input a text file to the GUI client or do I need to copy and paste the numbers in to the client one at a time.

A real world example is that in a disaster scenario or even something a little more common like a email outage I'd like to be able to send an SMS to either a small group of staff, all company mobiles or even all mobile numbers within the Exchange global address book.

Thanks,

JC

Hi,

Shortly I'll be installing the Solarwinds Orion Failover Engine on a new 2008 R2 server in our NPM/NCM/IPSLA environment. In preparation I need to purchase the appropriate PageGate licenses.

My question is, do I need to purchase 2 lots of licenses and hence have two separate installs, one for the primary server and one for the secondary server? Or do I just buy one and it's replicated from the primary server to the secondary? After all we'll only be using one server at a time. . . .

Having not done the FoE install yet I'm far from clear on how the FoE works and what parts of PageGate (if any) are replicated between servers so any guidance, tips or tricks will be greatfully recieved.

Thanks,

J

I'm in the same boat. I've recently built up a Solarwinds Orion environment on Windows Server 2008 R2 (only 64bit) and can't find a GSM USB modem that is officially supported on this OS.

Did you manage to find one?

Sorry guys I wasn't very clear with my last post.

Can I have multiple 'connectors' with different 'dedicated carriers' configured to use the same modem/'serial port'?

Thanks again,

JC

Thanks for your help guys! I've only recently been handed systems monitoring responsibilities so I'm pretty new to this sort of thing - paging, SMS's etc. I'm hoping you may be able to shed some light on a couple of things for me.

We have an existing PageGate installation on our SCOM cluster (and are looking to implement an SMS and Pager service on our new Solarwinds environment) which has two different carriers configured with one GSM modem for each.

1. Carrier GSM-AT using connector 1 (com 3) with GSM-AT as dedicated carrier. SMS recipients are configured to use this one.
2. Carrier TAP using connector 2 (com 4) with TAP as dedicated carrier. Pager recipients are configured to use this one.

My newbie question is, does it have to be this way. Can one modem be used for both Pager and SMS messages? That way I can use the other modem as the failover modem. If this is not possible does that mean I'll need another 2 modems for failover?

I know I'm pushing it but while we're on the topic of modems, could you recommend a good GSM modem supported on Server 2008 R2, preferably one with administration software that can show signal strength and perhaps restart the modem if required?

Tech Support, you didn't mention NotePager Pro. Can I assume that only PageGate has the failover/redundancy options?

Thanks so much for your help.

Hi,

Shortly I will be implementing Solarwinds Orion NPM. I'm looking for a SMS/paging app to integrate with it that can provide a HA modem solution i.e. Will send via one modem, say a USB Anyware Modem and then if the message fails or the modem is unavailable it will attempt to send via a locally attached USB GSM modem.

Does either NotePager Pro or PageGate offer this level of redundency?

Thanks,

JC
