Integration with CA Unicenter NSM

PageGate can be easily integrated with CA Unicenter NSM by using the GetAscii interface's command line integration.

The first step is to create a directory for the command line executable to reside within. If PageGate is installed on the CA Unicenter NSM system, we recommend creating c:\PageGateData\Unicenter\. If PageGate is installed on a separate system, this can be a directory shared on the Unicenter system or a directory shared on the PageGate server for Unicenter to reference.

If GetAscii will be referencing a network resource, you will need to provide a service account to the GetAscii Windows service to allow it permission to access the network location.

Configure PageGate's GetAscii Interface

  1. Open PG Admin.
  2. Go to Interfaces — GetAscii — Settings.
  3. Set the Polling Directory to the directory you created. By default: c:\PageGateData\Unicenter\
  4. Check Enabled.
  5. Click Apply.
  6. When prompted, you do want this enabled for all recipients and groups.
  7. Go to Program — Settings.
  8. In Run on this Server, check GetAscii if it isn't already checked.
  9. Click Apply. When prompted for credentials, leave them blank and click Apply again.

Configure CA Unicenter NSM Event/Alarm Rules

Now that PageGate is ready to accept alerts from Unicenter, define the clients/systems to be monitored, then create an Event/Alarm rule referencing sendpage32.exe in the GetAscii integration directory. Reference the CA Spectrum documentation ↗ — specifically "Working with Events and Alarms" and "How to Use Procedures in Event Processing".

The full path to the application should be:

c:\PageGateData\Unicenter\sendpage32.exe

Or if using a UNC path:
\\PGServer01\PageGateData\Unicenter\sendpage32.exe

The Command Line must be formatted as:

<GetAscii Polling Directory>\sendpage32.exe <recipient or group> <sender> <message with Unicenter variables>

Example — sending to the IT_Alerts group from sender Unicenter:

c:\PageGateData\Unicenter\sendpage32.exe IT_Alerts Unicenter {d "%w- %d %m-, %Y - %T"} A device {m} of type {t} has reported a Firewall trap. {S 1} contains the name of the last trap sent via fw. - (event [{e}])
