.NEW - SNPP Server
**************************
If you are a carrier or have a paging terminal and interested
in receiving messages in using SNPP (simple network
paging protocol) we have just released a beta version
of an SNPP Server Add-on for PageGate.
The New PageGate SNPP server is a high-performance,
multi-threaded, server that complies to RFC 1568, 1645,
and 1861 for level 2 SNPP support. Messages accepted
into PageGate via the SNPP server module are then able
to be sent out through any of PageGate's supported delivery
protocols (SNPP, WCTP, SMTP, TAP, UCP, GSMAT, TONE,
etc.).The most common use for the SNPP server will probably
be to accept messages via SNPP, and then send them to
an in-house paging terminal using a direct connect TAP
interface.
Please contact us at beta@notepage.net
if you are interested in testing.
Expanded Listings
**************************
We've expanded the various carrier listings and their
settings in the NotePage support section. If you have
any additions for local or regional carriers please
send them over. It is our intent to keep the database
as current as possible: https://www.notepage.net/snpp.htm

The Downside to Using SMTP (email)
***********************************
While this protocol is popular, it was not designed
for paging and as such it is not time sensitive. All
of the other protocols SNPP, WCTP and TAP are designed
to be time sensitive so that the software receives confirmation
from the carrier that it has indeed accepted the message.
Using SMTP its similar to putting a letter in your mailbox
at the end of your driveway, you never know when it
really gets to the intended recipient. Many carriers
support this protocol and if you are sending messages
that are not time sensitive, it can be convenient. If
however, the messaging is time critical it is best to
use a delivery protocol other than SMTP (email). The
above has nothing to do with the software but more the
adopting of technology (protocol) for a use it was not
initially intended.
