I am also having trouble getting the recipients to list within SolarWinds. Above someone states to check the reg key and restart the PAgeGate services. I have PageGate installed and have sent successful messages from it (SMS), but do not have any PageGate services listed nor does that reg key exist....

I know this is an old thread, but my query is best matched to this topic ....

I have Pagegate and Solarwinds NPM working fine, but I cannot see the option to "Dial Paging or SMS Service" with the Syslog alerts in NCM. Is there additional configurations required to enable that functionality?

This video tutorial will show you how to access that portion of the Orion interface as well as how to integrate the two programs together: http://www.notepage.net/video-tutorials.htm

Thanks for the link, but that only shows me how to integrate Pagegate to NPM, not NCM.

However, I think I may have solved the issue - on the alert, tell it to run an external command, and tell it to run
C:\PageGateData\AsciiFileInput\sendpage32.exe recipient sender message
From my testing, that will accept Solarwinds' variables, so the page can be specific to the node having NCM problems. The only trick is to run Alert manager as Admin, otherwise the alert won't work at all.

Ah, I misread your initial message and I thought you were talking about the NPM. That's good information, though, thank you for sharing it.

Thanks for your response, Drogba1, but I couldn't even get to the window that allowed me to bring up the list of recipients. As it turns out, it doesn't exist in NCM Syslog alerts anyway, so using the "Run external command" option was the only way to get it to work.

Hi all,
We would like to integrate PageGate with our SAM / NPM and have a couple of questions:

1. Does PageGate have to be installed on the same server as SAM / NPM server?

2. To be able to send SMS via USB dongle, does the dongle need to also be on the SAM / NPM / PageGate server?

Kind Regards,

Graham

No, it doesn't have to be. However, if you don't have PageGate installed on the SAM/NPM server, you won't be able to use the automatic integration referenced in our video tutorials, you'll need to configure the integration manually. To do so:

1) On the SAM/NPM Server, create and share a directory. Provide the PageGate Server read, write and modify permissions to this folder.

2) On the PageGate Server, create a directory: c:\PageGateData\Ascii\

3) Open the PG Admin.

3) Go to Interfaces - GetAscii - Settings.

4) Set the polling directory to: C:\PageGateData\Ascii\

5) Go to Interfaces - GetAscii - Settings - Advanced Polling - Files.

6) Click on Add.

7) Set the following:

Recipient: *
From: Orion
Files: *.asc
Path: The UNC path to the directory on the SAM/NPM server you shared in step 1.
File Type: Standard

8) Click on Apply.

Then, on the Orion side of things, instead of using the "Dial Page or SMS service", you'll need to use "Execute an external command". The commands will need to be formatted as follows:

<SAM/NPM server Ascii directory>\sendpage32.exe <recipient> <sender> <message>

Example:

c:\PGIntegration\sendpage32.exe john_doe Tech This is a test message.

That example would configure Orion to send a message to a recipient named john_doe in PageGate from a sender named Tech and the message would say 'This is a test message'.

It will definitely need to be on the PageGate Server.

Hmm, I'm stuck...

I'm on the part where I execute the remote command and am unsure of the path. Do I need to specify the unc path of the sendpage32.exe on the PageGate server?

Ah, my mistake, I left out a step. You'll need to make a copy of the c:\ascii\sendpage32.exe file (which should exist on the PageGate server) in the shared directory on the SAM/NPM server you created in step 1 of the previous steps.

Reviving an old thread here -

I am trying to install and test with Solarwinds using the trial version. Is this even possible? The steps in the first post say register first.

Trying to work my way through the video tutorials - under PG Admin - Connectors - Global, I do not see SMTP.

When purchasing - is the Command Line/ASCII interface the same thing as the GetASCII plugin?

Thanks,
DE

Yes, you can definitely use the trial version in conjunction with Solarwinds.

The SMTP configuration steps in the video tutorial are for a slightly older copy of PageGate, we've updated the way the program handles SMTP in the latest version.

For up to date steps on how to configure an SMTP carrier and its necessary global settings, have a look at our documentation here:
http://www.notepage.net/manuals/pg/v8/server/html/index.html

The section you'll be interested in is 'How PageGate Sends Messages' - 'How to send Email' and you may also be interested in the 'How to send SMS' section.

Yes, they are one and the same.
