I've been trying to setup pagegate to work with my two carriers for different pagers, using tap. One is cook paging and the other is skytel. But I'm having an issue where the modem dials out, but sits at the waiting for initialization part, then hangs up and tries a couple more times.

I've tried doing 7,e,1, 8,n,1, baud at 300 to 1200. But nothing seems to work.

I created the modem.dbg file, but when I open the file after I've done a test message, I find the file empty.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The "modem.dbg" file only acts as a flag. There will be no information
in it. The debugging information will appear in your dialer log file
(PGDial1.log).

I would try 9600 Baud for Skytel if you wish to use TAP. Just remember
to "auto" detect your Carrier Init String when switching baud rates

Skytel also supports SNPP and WCTP. If your computer has Internet
connectivity we recommend one of those. They are fast, reliable and
simple to set up.

E-mail your the dialer log, your Name, telephone number and modem
brand/model. We can look at the log to see exactly were we should
troubleshoot.

Please do not post the contents of your dialer log file in the forums.

Customer is using PageGate 4.0.

In the Dialer 1 settings, "Direct Connect" was selected. Having "Direct Connect" assumes a direct serial connection to a TAP paging terminal and forces PageGate to ignore TAP dialing settings.

Once "Direct Connect" was un-selected and the correct telephone number was entered (the Carrier supplied number was incorrect), the customer was able to send a message.
