Uses Text Messaging to Combat Ebola |
Ethiopia launched on Saturday a phone text messaging
campaign to raise funds as part of a continental drive

Are a Surprisingly Effective Anti-Malaria Measure |
One of the more long-standing, tricky findings of
social science is that it is really, really hard to
get people to stick to plans. Sometimes this means
they keep on 20 pounds they had hoped to lose with
a few months of exercise. Sometimes, as in the case
of taking anti-malarial medication, the results can
be a matter of life and death. A new study in PLOS
ONE explores how text messaging can help short-circuit
this aspect of human nature, and it garnered some
positive results.

Ways Your Text Messages Change After You Get Married |
When you’re in a new relationship, you waste endless
words telling your partner how much you looove him
or her. After you’re married, the conversations
shift to the things that really matter. Things like
dinner.
That is what one data scientist discovered about her
own relationship, anyway. For a recent anniversary,
Alice Zhao analyzed all the texts she and her husband
had ever sent each other, from the first flirty days
of dating to their current status as newlyweds. Here’s
her interpretation of how her relationship changed,
judging strictly from the ever-so-romantic world of
text-message logs:

11/03/2014 Text Message
Evidence |
It is hardly news that electronic communications—emails,
text messages, instant messages and the like—have
overtaken traditional writings as the prevalent means
of conveying information. But while these messages

slower in adapting the rules of evidence governing
old-fashioned documents to these newer forms of communication.
One issue that has given many courts pause is the
applicability to text messages of the so-called best-evidence
rule. But a review of the rule itself makes clear
that it does not present any significant bar to the
admission of text messages into evidence.
